Fennel Tangle Silk Tie

Regular price £80.00 Sale

A silk necktie in 'Fennel Tangle' pattern.

The design is inspired from the wild fennel growing on the sand dunes in Northern Brittany, France. Fennel has long been a huge source of inspiration to me as I admire the plants strength and vigour but also its elegance and its diversity in culinary uses.

The poem, The Goblet of Life by American Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) is of great inspiration. One verse reads,

"Above the lowly plants it towers,
The fennel, with its yellow flowers,
And in an earlier age than ours
Was gifted with the wondrous powers,
Lost vision to restore.
It gave new strength, and fearless mood;
And gladiators, fierce and rude,
Mingled it in their daily food;
And he who battled and subdued,
A wreath of fennel wore"

Green with tiny amounts of a deep aubergine to add depth on a grey/olive background

Choice of classic 8cm (3.15 inch) or narrower 7cm (2.75 inch) blade and all standard 152 cm (60 inch) length. Self tipped and hand finished - with an unexpected colour bar tack on the reverse, in this case a deep purple.
